Christmas Market History
The Carlinville Christmas Market takes place on the first full weekend in December - Friday and Saturday. We hosted our first Christmas Market festival on the town square in December 1990. The Market has grown from its earlier romance of tents on the square to a large indoor building where talented artisans, food vendors, costumed carolers, children's activities, and other holiday attractions can all fit under one roof. And it’s heated.
While it retains its focus on family fun in a romantic, small-town setting, the festival has grown in variety and reputation. The Christmas Market attracts over 10,000 visitors and generates $1 million in local revenue.
Christmas Market Foundation
The Carlinville Christmas Market Foundation is a non-profit organization that manages the festival. Its board of directors includes a diverse group of civic leaders who have demonstrated their commitment to a family-oriented celebration of the season and to the well-being of their community.
Vision
Under the auspices of the Carlinville Christmas Market Foundation, the Carlinville Christmas Market will be recognized as an indispensable Carlinville and Macoupin County holiday event. It will generate significant local revenue and support the economic development of both entities.
Mission
The Carlinville Christmas Market Foundation will be a sustainable organization that will plan, organize, and produce the annual Christmas Market festival and sponsor other events and activities that will help ensure the success of the Market. The Foundation also will provide opportunities for volunteer efforts, help build social capital, support Carlinville and Macoupin County in their economic endeavors, support charitable causes by other than financial means, and enhance community spirit and cooperation.
